New Fairy Tail Action-RPG Announced

New Fairy Tail Action-RPG Announced

  • A real-time action-RPG, Fairy Tail 2 is a direct successor to the 2020 turn-based RPG, and it will be released this winter on a number of platforms.
  • The game features fights against Zeref, Acnologia, and Spriggan 12, adapting the Alvarez arc from the manga.
  • Link Attacks is one of the new features; it allows party members to combine spells for special effects.

Koei Tecmo revealed Fairy Tail 2, a direct follow-up to the 2020 turn-based role-playing game Fairy Tail, at the most recent Nintendo Direct. But instead of turn-based gameplay, Fairy Tail 2 is now an action-RPG that plays like Fairy Tail: Fierce Fight on mobile devices.

Among the most well-known shounen manga is Fairy Tail. Although the series has previously dabbled in the gaming market, many of its titles were only available in Japan. When Koei Tecmo and Gust released the turn-based Fairy Tail RPG for the Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC in 2020, it all changed. A large number of the series’ conclusion arcs, including those involving Tartaros, Tenrou Island, Grand Magic Games, and Avatar, were adapted for the first game. Hiro Mashima, the series’ creator, also included new aspects that were not present in the manga.

While there will be some gameplay changes, Fairy Tail 2 will pick up where the first game left off. The seventeenth and final story arc of the epic, the Alvarez arc, will be adapted into Fairy Tail 2. Enthusiasts will confront adversaries such as Zeref, the ebony dragon Acnologia, and every member of the Spriggan 12. The gameplay of Fairy Tail 2 was drastically altered, replacing turn-based combat with real-time action-RPG elements. The teaser reveals that players will no longer be limited to utilising Natsu and Lucy exclusively and that they can now put together a party of different Fairy Tail guild mages.

Nintendo Direct: The announcement of Fairy Tail 2

The presentation of Link Attacks was one of the highlights of the conflict. Members of the party can unleash successive attacks and new effects by combining their spells. In the teaser for Fairy Tail 2, Laxus and Mirajane engage in a Link Attack in which the electric mage’s spell causes paralysis while Mirajane grants a speed boost. The movie showcases another impressive pairing: Erza Scarlet, a battle wizard, and Wendy, a Sky Dragon Slayer Magic user.

Fairy Tail 2 retells the concluding arc of the original manga, which completed in 2017. In 2018, the creator Hiro Mashima released a sequel titled Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, which is ongoing. As of right now, it’s unknown if Fairy Tail 2 will expand upon the original game’s settings, plots, or even reveal previously unreleased material, such as new spells for Unison Raids—the blending of two different magics to create a completely new one.

With its winter release dates for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and PC via Steam, Fairy Tail 2 is expected to launch at the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025. Throughout the year, fans may eagerly anticipate additional Koei Tecmo improvements.
